Carton prices beat bottle prices at Duty Free Maputo
On the international side of Terminal A, Duty Free Maputo sits toward the far end of the concourse, just before the lounge entrance and some of the last gates. The space is small, more walk-through shop than mall, and it’s clearly geared to regional and expat flyers grabbing cartons of cigarettes and a quick bottle on the way out of Mozambique.
The standout deal here is tobacco. FlyerTalk regulars call out “very attractive prices for tobacco,” and many wait to buy cigarettes until this specific shop near the lounge rather than stopping earlier. If you’re flying to South Africa or back into the region, this is where people top up on cartons instead of buying in town.
Alcohol is the weak spot. A YouTube walkthrough shows whisky shelves with only a handful of brands, and several 1L bottles priced at or above typical South African retail, making it a poor place to “stock up.” Commenters say they’d rather buy liquor in Maputo city or at OR Tambo in Johannesburg, using this duty free only if they’ve forgotten a bottle and need one in a hurry.
Expect standard duty-free categories in miniature: some spirits, a few wines, basic chocolates, and perfume, but nothing like a big-hub lineup. The airport itself only has a few shops, so treat Duty Free Maputo as a quick stop, not a shopping session. Tip: if tobacco is on your list, wait until you reach this end-of-terminal store, then head straight to your gate or the lounge.
