Compact airport, short walk to Thrifty at MOB

Mobile Regional Airport (MOB) runs everything out of the Main Terminal, so finding the Thrifty counter is simple. The rental desks sit landside on the first floor near baggage claim, a 2–3 minute walk from the single arrivals exit. Follow signs for “Rental Cars” after you pass carousel 1 and you’ll see Thrifty grouped with the other national brands.

Thrifty at MOB lists its counter hours in the typical 7:00–23:00 range on most booking sites, but opening and closing times can shift with flight schedules. If your flight lands after 22:00, confirm your pick-up time in the reservation notes or call ahead with your flight number so the staff can track your arrival. For very early departures before 6:00, plan your return the night before and use the after-hours key drop at the Thrifty box in the return area.

Car pick-up for Thrifty sits in the rental car lot directly across from the terminal, about a 3–5 minute walk from baggage claim doors 1–2. You collect your keys at the Main Terminal counter, then walk outside, cross the small access road, and head to the signed Thrifty spaces. Most cars here fall into standard US airport categories: compact, midsize, full-size, plus a limited number of SUVs and pickups that price higher by $20–$40 per day.

Pricing at MOB usually runs higher than big-city airports, with base daily rates that can easily hit $60–$90 before taxes for midsize cars during spring and summer. Taxes and fees at Mobile Regional can add 20–30% on top of the base Thrifty rate, so a “$55 per day” quote can land closer to $70 when you see the final total. Booking at least 7 days ahead and checking back 48 hours before arrival often shaves $10–$20 per day if demand softens.

Returns work like most small airports: follow “Rental Car Return” signs as you approach MOB on Loyd Lane, then veer toward the terminal access road and into the combined rental lot. Park in a marked Thrifty stall, lock the vehicle, and bring your contract and keys back to the desk during open hours. For overnight returns, drop the keys in Thrifty’s labeled drop box next to the counter and keep photos of the odometer and fuel gauge.

One tip: build a 15–20 minute buffer at peak morning bank times (around 5:30–7:30) when TSA at MOB gets backed up; return the Thrifty car first, then walk straight into the Main Terminal check-in area without cutting it close.
