MIA Mover automated train to rental cars and transit
The MIA Mover runs every few minutes and links all three terminals (North, Central, South) to the Miami Intermodal Center and the main Rental Car Center above Level 3. It’s an automated people mover, free to ride, and the ride takes about 3 minutes end to end once you’re on board.
To board from the terminal side, follow signs to “MIA Mover” and “Rental Car Center,” then take elevators or escalators up to Level 3 in the terminal’s central area. The station sits between the Dolphin and Flamingo garages, so expect a 5–10 minute walk from far North or South gates, especially if you’re arriving from the E or J concourses.
On the Intermodal Center side, the MIA Mover drops you directly into the Rental Car Center, which houses more than a dozen rental brands under one roof along NW 21st Street. From the same complex you can connect to Metrorail’s Orange Line toward downtown and Dadeland, Tri-Rail shuttle buses to the Hialeah Market station, and the Metrobus bays along NW 37th Avenue.
The train itself runs on a dedicated guideway above the airport roadways and typically operates 24 hours a day, with peak headways around 3 minutes and late-night gaps closer to 10 minutes. Cars are large enough to handle full-size checked bags and hard-shell suitcases, with wide doors on both sides and level boarding from the platform edge.
Ride-hail pickups tie into this setup, since many Uber and Lyft drivers stage near the Rental Car Center along NW 25th Street and the surrounding lots. Walking from the MIA Mover station to the ride-hail zones usually takes 3–7 minutes, depending on which lane your driver is assigned along the multi-level access roads and curb areas.
Step-by-step: Terminal to Metrorail via MIA Mover
- 1. After landing in North, Central, or South, clear immigration and customs if needed, then follow overhead signs to “MIA Mover / Rental Car Center.”
- 2. Take the escalator or elevator up to Level 3, moving toward the central connector between garage Dolphin (to the west) and garage Flamingo (to the east).
- 3. Enter the MIA Mover station, wait on the platform, and board the next train toward the Rental Car Center; trains usually show direction on digital displays above the doors.
- 4. Ride about 3 minutes to the Miami Intermodal Center and exit at the only stop, which is integrated with the Rental Car Center building.
- 5. Follow signs for “Metrorail” and walk to the station entrance, then use a contactless bank card or EASY Card at the Orange Line gates before boarding toward Government Center or Dadeland South.
One practical tip: if you land in the middle of a summer thunderstorm, walk inside to Level 3 first and only call your Uber or Lyft once you’re already off the MIA Mover at the Rental Car Center, since the ride from the gate can easily add 15 minutes in bad weather.
