Train 30-40 min

30–40 minutes gets you from MIA to downtown on Brightline

Brightline is the higher-speed rail line that links Miami, Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and West Palm Beach in about 30–40 minutes from airport to downtown segments once you’re actually on the trains. At MIA you don’t board Brightline inside the airport; you use the free MIA Mover to the Miami Intermodal Center, then Metrorail Orange Line 6 stops to Government Center, then walk or transfer one stop to Brightline’s MiamiCentral station.

Trains run roughly every 30 minutes on core routes during daytime and evening hours, with Miami–Fort Lauderdale and Miami–West Palm Beach as the main airport-friendly legs. From MiamiCentral, Brightline takes around 30 minutes to Fort Lauderdale and about 65 minutes to West Palm Beach. If your hotel is within a 5–10 minute walk of a Brightline station in Brickell, downtown Fort Lauderdale, or downtown West Palm, this easily beats sitting in US‑1 or I‑95 traffic.

From any North, Central, or South Terminal concourse, follow signs to the MIA Mover; the walk is usually 5–10 minutes, depending on your gate number. The MIA Mover ride itself takes about 4 minutes to the Miami Intermodal Center, where you go straight to Metrorail ticket machines to buy an EASY Card or EASY Ticket for the Orange Line, currently a few dollars per ride. Build at least a 20‑minute buffer here for crowds and ticket kiosks.

On Metrorail, take the Orange Line toward Dadeland and stay on for about 15–20 minutes to Government Center, then follow signs for Brightline’s MiamiCentral, roughly a 5–8 minute street‑level walk. Brightline fares use dynamic pricing but advance tickets between Miami and Fort Lauderdale often fall in the $10–$20 range, with Miami–West Palm typically higher. Trains have assigned seating and free Wi‑Fi, which helps if you need to work between flights.

Step-by-step from MIA to Brightline MiamiCentral

  • 1. From your gate in North, Central, or South Terminal, follow signs to “MIA Mover” (5–10 minute walk).
  • 2. Ride the free MIA Mover to the Miami Intermodal Center (about 4 minutes).
  • 3. At the Intermodal Center, buy an EASY Card or EASY Ticket at the Metrorail machines (keep a few $1 bills or a credit card ready).
  • 4. Board the Orange Line toward Dadeland; ride 6 stops to Government Center (about 15–20 minutes).
  • 5. Exit at Government Center and walk 5–8 minutes to Brightline MiamiCentral following street signs.
  • 6. Check in for your pre-booked train or buy a same‑day ticket and board when called.

One practical tip: don’t book a Brightline departure less than 75–90 minutes after scheduled landing at MIA; a late bag run from South Terminal plus the MIA Mover and Metrorail legs can easily eat 45–60 minutes.
