Metered cabs line up outside the Main Terminal exit

For a direct, curb-to-door ride out of McAllen Miller International Airport (MFE), taxis wait right outside the Main Terminal baggage claim doors. You walk 50–100 feet from the carousel to the curb and you’re at the taxi line. No apps, no shuttle loops, and no transfers with bags.

Taxi services here are provided by various local companies operating standard sedans and minivans, all picking up at the same curb in front of the Main Terminal. Rides are typically metered, with starting fares similar to other South Texas cities and per-mile charges posted in the car. Ask the driver for an approximate total before you pull away from the airport entrance.

From MFE to central McAllen, most rides take about 10–15 minutes to cover the roughly 3–6 mile stretch, traffic depending. Cross-border rides to Reynosa can run 30–45 minutes thanks to the Anzalduas or Hidalgo bridge crossings. If you’re heading farther up US‑83 toward Mission or Pharr, expect 20–30 minutes in the car and confirm the fare structure for those longer legs.

Taxi service generally tracks flight schedules, with cars present from the first departures around 5:00–6:00 a.m. through the last arrivals near 11:00 p.m. If you land after midnight on a delayed Allegiant or American flight, call a local cab company from the baggage claim area rather than relying on walk-up availability. Keep the airport address handy: 2500 S. Bicentennial Blvd, McAllen, TX 78503.

Most taxis accept cash in US dollars and many accept major credit cards like Visa and Mastercard, but card readers do fail. Ask before the ride if you plan to pay by card, and keep at least $20–$40 in small bills as backup. Tipping norms sit around 15–20%, so a $20 metered fare often ends up closer to $23–$24.

Watch out for drivers quoting flat rates that seem high versus a metered trip in a city this size; in McAllen, a run of under 10 miles from the airport rarely justifies a big lump sum. If the meter is off, agree clearly on a price before the car leaves the Main Terminal curb.

One tip: if you care about price, ask the first driver in line for a ballpark total to your exact address and compare it with a quick map check of the distance in miles before you get in.
