Terminal MAIN-TERMINAL hosts 3 airlines across 6 gates.
Six gates handle every flight in McAllen’s Main Terminal
The Main Terminal at McAllen Miller International Airport (MFE) is a single compact building with all six gates feeding one shared concourse, so American, United, and Delta passengers all queue and board in the same small gate area. Security sits just a short walk from check-in, and it’s a quick stroll from the first gate to the last compared with larger Texas airports.
All three airlines at MFE—American Airlines, United Airlines, and Delta Air Lines—depart from this one terminal, so your boarding pass will always show “Main Terminal” even if you switch carriers on separate tickets. With only six gates, gate changes usually mean a move of less than a minute on foot rather than a long hike down a different pier.
Food options inside the Main Terminal are limited enough that many regulars show up already fed from nearby restaurants along South 10th Street, which sits less than 1 mile from the terminal entrance on Wichita Avenue. If you want a sit-down meal before flying, plan it in town, then head to the airport about 75–90 minutes before departure to clear check-in and security without rushing.
The only retail name you’ll reliably see airside is Explore McAllen, which appears in two small shop locations along the concourse between the central waiting area and the far gates, selling regional souvenirs and standard travel items like phone chargers and snacks. Prices are typical small-airport gift shop levels, so expect to pay a bit extra compared with the H‑E‑B or Target 3–4 miles away on N 23rd Street or Expressway 83.
There are no airline or independent lounges in the Main Terminal—no Admirals Club, United Club, or Delta Sky Club—so Priority Pass and credit card lounge access won’t help you here. Power outlets sit near several gate-area seats, but capacity lines up with the six-gate scale of the place, so bring a small power strip if two or more people in your group need to charge at once.
Check-in counters for American, United, and Delta line the same front hall roughly 100–150 feet from the single TSA checkpoint, so even at peak times you’re not facing a long indoor trek with bags. Give yourself about 60 minutes before a domestic flight if you already have a mobile boarding pass and aren’t checking bags, and closer to 90 minutes if you’re checking luggage or traveling around morning and late-afternoon bank times.
Ground transport at MFE sits just outside the same sliding doors that serve all arrivals, with taxis and rideshare pickups using the curb about 100 feet from baggage claim. With only one terminal and one general curbfront, you can text “I’m at arrivals” without needing to specify an island or zone letter the way you would at larger hubs.
One practical tip: stock up on snacks and a drink before security at a nearby gas station or grocery store along S 10th Street, then head in; once past TSA in the Main Terminal, your only real options are the two Explore McAllen shops and whatever is in the vending machines near the gates.
