Metrobus Line 4 Aeropuerto T1

Bus rapid transit

Bus rapid transit 45–75 min to Centro/Buenavista depending on traffic $1–1.50 (card + fare combined for first trip)

45–75 minutes from MEX T1 to Centro for about a dollar

Metrobus Line 4 Aeropuerto T1 runs from outside Terminal 1 and takes roughly 45–75 minutes to reach Centro Histórico or Buenavista, depending on traffic. It’s bus rapid transit with its own lanes for long stretches, so it feels calmer and more luggage-friendly than squeezing onto the metro at $1–1.50 for your first ride with card included.

The stop is signed as Metrobús Línea 4 Aeropuerto T1 just outside the arrivals area of T1; buses run about every 10–15 minutes from around 4:30 until close to midnight. The same line has two downtown branches (north loop toward Buenavista and south loop toward San Lázaro), so watch the front destination sign before you tap in.

You need a rechargeable Metrobús smart card before boarding; drivers do not sell tickets and do not take cash at the doors. At T1 there’s a vending machine at the station entrance where you load at least enough pesos to cover the roughly $1–1.50 first trip (card plus fare), then just tap at the gate for each rider.

The main airport–Centro run uses dedicated lanes for much of the way but still slows at major intersections and, according to locals, can stretch toward the 75‑minute end of the range at evening rush hour near Alameda and Bellas Artes. One traveler on r/travel called it “super cheap and easy” and liked getting dropped a short walk from Palacio de Bellas Artes.

Regulars know which side of the island platform goes to Buenavista (north loop) and which goes toward San Lázaro (south loop), and they line up there instead of playing it by ear. Some locals ride Metrobus into town from MEX but switch to Uber, DiDi, or taxi for the return when they’re hauling extra bags or cutting it close for a flight from T1 or T2.

How to ride Metrobus Line 4 from T1

  • 1. Follow signs in T1 arrivals to “Metrobús Línea 4 Aeropuerto” and exit to the dedicated station.
  • 2. Use the station machine to buy a Metrobús card and load enough pesos for at least one $1–1.50 ride.
  • 3. Check the platform signs and bus front display for Buenavista or San Lázaro, depending on where your hotel is.
  • 4. Tap your card at the gate, then wait inside the paid area; buses come every 10–15 minutes from about 4:30–24:00.
  • 5. Board quickly, keep bags close, and watch Google Maps or the onboard stop screens so you don’t miss Alameda, Bellas Artes, or your downtown stop.

Tip: landing in the 17:00–20:00 rush window and staying near Zócalo or Bellas Artes, budget the full 75 minutes so you’re not stressing about check‑in times.
