Southside News

Near the Main Terminal food court at Midway, Southside News is the grab-and-go stop for last‑minute plane reading and snacks.

You’ll find it post-security in the Main Terminal concourse, close enough to most B and C gates that you can duck in and back out in under 10 minutes. It runs standard airport retail hours, roughly from the first departures around 5:00 a.m. until the late-night Southwest banks taper off after 9:00–10:00 p.m., though options thin out near closing.

Think newsstand basics: bottled drinks under $5, candy, gum, travel-size toiletries, and a rack of magazines and newspapers that still beats what you’ll find at most gate kiosks. Prices run higher than downtown Chicago, but in line with other Midway shops. If you need a phone charger or headphones, expect generic brands more than premium labels, and budget $15–$30.

Food-wise, it’s mostly packaged snacks, protein bars, chips, and a small cooler with sandwiches and yogurt, usually priced in the $6–$12 range. Grab coffee and hot food elsewhere in the Main Terminal, then swing by Southside News for snacks and something to read so you’re not stuck with only the in-flight magazine for a three-hour Southwest hop.

Practical tip: hit Southside News before you head down the longer walks toward the far C gates so you’re not backtracking 10–15 minutes for gum, water, or a charger.
