Runway views beat the buffet at this MCI Sky Club
Gate B40 is your landmark: the Delta Sky Club in Concourse B at MCI sits airside in Terminal T with big windows facing the ramp, and most people treat it like a calm bar with planes as the entertainment. It’s a compact space compared with Delta hubs, and regulars often split time between this club and the Escape Lounge in Concourse B when they want better hot food.
The lounge sits past security in Concourse B, so you need a same-day Delta or SkyTeam boarding pass plus Sky Club access (membership, eligible Amex, or premium cabin) to get in. Figure a 5–10 minute walk from most B-gates; MCI’s new single-terminal layout means you don’t change terminals, just follow signs to the B concourse and look for the Delta branding near the gate cluster around B40–B44.
Food here skews light: think basic snacks, a couple of cold items, and possibly one or two simple hot dishes at peak bank times, closer to what you’d see in a smaller outstation like AUS than in ATL or DTW. Many flyers grab substantial food at the Escape Lounge in the same concourse, then come back here for a quieter drink and better view of the ramp and taxiway action.
Drinks are the stronger play. Standard house beer and wine are complimentary at the bar, and you can usually get a basic mixed drink without an extra charge; premium labels show up on a paid list, similar to other Sky Clubs with $9–$15 pours. If you care more about a relaxed pre-flight drink than a full meal, this is usually the better stop compared with most concourse bars in T.
Seating runs along the windows with a mix of lounge chairs and small tables, and power outlets appear between seats in several of the rows closest to the glass. Wi‑Fi runs on Delta’s usual network and typically handles email and streaming at the same time; think 20–50 Mbps when the room isn’t packed. It’s not huge, so during the early morning and late afternoon Delta banks, expect most of the 40–60 main seats to fill.
One practical move: if you want a real meal plus quiet, start at the Escape Lounge in Concourse B for the stronger buffet, then walk the few minutes back to the Delta Sky Club near gate B40 for a drink with runway views before boarding.
