Most MBJ walk-throughs skip Sunshine Bar as “just another bar.”
You’ll find Sunshine Bar airside in Terminal T1, past security and near the main cluster of departure gates. It’s a standard sit-down bar with counter stools and a few small tables, aimed at quick pre-boarding drinks rather than long meals. Expect mid-range airport prices (call it $$): beers around typical resort rates, cocktails higher, and basic snacks instead of full plates.
Figure 15–30 minutes is enough time here before a flight out of T1. Service pace tracks crowd levels; when several gates in T1 board at once, it can feel slow. On quiet banks, a drink lands within about 5–10 minutes. If your boarding pass shows a tight 40-minute connection, this isn’t a linger-and-relax stop; use it for one quick drink, then move toward your gate.
Drinks lean simple: rum punch, Red Stripe, basic mixed drinks, and well spirits. Expect standard pours, not craft cocktails. With a 3 out of 5 rating overall, think “fine if you’re here,” not destination bar. Food options typically sit in snack territory only, so plan a real meal elsewhere in MBJ T1 and treat Sunshine Bar as a liquid add-on.
Noise level matches the terminal around it: when three flights to the US line up, the bar feels like an extension of the gate area, with boarding calls from nearby T1 gates cutting through. Seating is first-come; once the 150–180 seat narrowbodies board, things calm down noticeably.
Tip: Order and pay in one go at the bar, then keep an eye on your gate’s screens; T1 at MBJ sometimes calls final boarding only 10–15 minutes after first call.
