Shuttle check-in first, lounge second
The Sandals Lounge at MBJ T1 sits in the arrivals hall, past customs, and works more like a welcome center for resort transfers than a traditional pre-flight lounge. Access is only for guests heading to Sandals or Beaches resorts, and you’ll usually be routed there straight after clearing immigration so staff can tag your bags and line up your shuttle.
Hours generally track the flight banks into Montego Bay, with the lounge open through the main daytime arrivals window to meet inbound guests from North America and Europe. Look for the Sandals desk and signage just outside customs; staff will take your luggage tags, mark your resort and bus, and then load your bags onto the coach from there while you sit down.
Inside, expect a basic waiting room with around 20–30 seats, fridges stocked with Red Stripe, soft drinks, and water, and a couple of small tables. Reviews call it a “nice little waiting room with beer and soft drinks,” which is accurate: you’ll get a cold drink and a seat, not a premium-lounge setup with showers or work pods.
Food is almost non-existent: TripAdvisor reports no hot dishes, just simple snacks like chips or nuts if they’re out. Treat this as a post-flight drink stop rather than a meal; if you skipped food on the plane, plan to eat at the resort, not here.
The useful part is logistics: multiple reviewers note staff tag your bags in the lounge and handle all loading to the bus, so you don’t need to hover at baggage claim or follow your suitcase outside. They’ll call out resort names when each shuttle is ready, so you won’t miss your coach sitting with a beer.
On the downside, when two or three big flights hit at once, guests describe the room as crowded and a bit chaotic, with limited seating and people standing along the walls waiting for their bus. There is also no Sandals-branded lounge on departure airside, so this is a one-time arrival touchpoint, not a place to hang before flying home.
What regulars do: grab a quick Red Stripe from the fridge, confirm their resort and bus number with staff, then wait just outside the lounge doors if it’s packed, listening for shuttle calls. One practical tip: use the lounge for tagging bags and a drink, but hit the restroom in the main terminal before you sit down so you’re ready to board the bus as soon as it’s called.
