RIU Hotels Lounge

Arrivals-only RIU desk in T1, mainly for bus coordination

The RIU Hotels Lounge at Montego Bay’s Sangster International (MBJ T1) sits landside in the arrivals hall and functions more like a resort check-in desk with seats than a classic lounge with food, bar, and showers.

Access is limited to RIU resort guests on arrival, after you exit immigration and customs in T1 and reach the line of hotel and tour counters where Sandals, Couples, and other resorts also have desks.

Most reports mention RIU staff meeting guests directly in the arrivals area and walking them over to a small seating section beside the counter while they wait for their specific resort bus.

Plan for 30–60 minutes here if your flight lands well before the next scheduled shuttle, since multiple guests mention sitting in the RIU area that long with little more than basic chairs and conversation.

Unlike the Sandals lounge a few steps away, reviewers explicitly note that RIU’s section does not offer complimentary alcohol, so don’t expect a rum punch or Red Stripe while you wait.

Food options on this side of the glass are essentially zero in the RIU space itself, so if you’re hungry after a 3–5 hour flight from the US, your choices are the general terminal vendors back along the arrivals corridor.

There are no showers reported in the RIU arrivals area, and most travelers just freshen up with handwash and a quick change of clothes before the 15–90 minute transfer out to resorts like RIU Reggae or RIU Montego Bay.

Seats in the RIU section are described as basic airport-style chairs arranged in small rows, and the setup is sized for maybe a busload or two, not a large group from multiple widebody arrivals at once.

If the RIU area feels crowded when two or three flights hit at the same time, you can step a few meters away into the general arrivals hall and still listen for staff calling your specific hotel or bus number.

Practical tip: before you leave home, save your RIU resort and transfer details in your phone notes and grab cash at an ATM in T1 arrivals so you can tip the porter and driver while you wait in the RIU section.
