Gate-side books and snacks in T1

Five minutes from most Schengen gates in T1, Relay is your standard newsstand stop for last‑minute reading, snacks, and basic travel gear. It sits airside after security, so you can duck in between passport control and boarding without backtracking through the terminal.

Relay in T1 stocks magazines and newspapers in Spanish, English, and usually one or two French titles, plus paperbacks aimed at the Madrid–Europe crowd. Expect bestseller paperbacks to run around €10–€15 and glossy magazines around €5–€8. Kids’ activity books and small toys sit near the front, useful on long-haul connections.

Drinks and snacks skew toward grab-and-go: bottled water at roughly €2–€3, soft drinks a bit more, and basic sandwiches and sweets at typical airport markups. You’ll also find gum, mints, and single-serve nuts and chips, handy for short flights on low-cost carriers out of T1 where buy‑on‑board can be hit or miss.

There’s a small rack of travel essentials: plug adapters compatible with Spain’s Type C/F outlets, simple phone chargers, power banks, and neck pillows, usually in the €10–€30 band. Basic toiletries like toothpaste, deodorant, and wipes cover most overnight‑delay emergencies for T1 passengers.

Staff generally speak Spanish and at least some English, and the shop accepts major cards plus contactless. One tip: grab water and reading here before you head to your exact gate, as some T1 gate areas only have vending machines once you walk all the way down the pier.
