T2’s Madras Coffee House is your filter coffee stop

Right inside Terminal T2, Madras Coffee House runs as a quick counter for south Indian drinks and snacks before your flight. It’s landside in the departures area of Chennai International Airport, so you can grab something while waiting for check-in or after being dropped off. Expect basic seating, high foot traffic, and short waits compared to the bigger food courts in T4.

The star here is the traditional filter coffee, usually priced in the ₹40–₹80 range depending on size. Staff keep the coffee moving fast, and it comes in steel tumblers or paper cups, depending on how busy it is and whether you say it’s to-go. If you want something lighter, masala tea and plain milk are typically on the same board with similar budget pricing.

Food is simple: think idli, vada, and the odd snack plate rather than full meals. Portions skew towards “grab and go,” roughly 2–3 idlis or a vada plate under ₹150. It’s not a full tiffin house like you’d find in the city, but it’s enough to keep you going through a 2–3 hour wait or an early-morning departure window.

Service style is counter-first, then pick-up when they shout your token number. During heavy T2 bank times around late evening and early morning, you might see a 10–15 minute line, mostly domestic passengers queueing after dropping bags. Cash and domestic cards are usually fine; international cards are hit-or-miss, so keep at least ₹200 in cash if you plan to eat here.

One practical tip: if your flight leaves from T4 but you arrive early at T2 for drop-off, grab your coffee and a quick idli here, then head for your terminal transfer so you’re not stuck relying only on whatever is open at your exact gate.
