Gate-side in Terminal 1, WHSmith is your last-minute book stop

Right in Liverpool John Lennon Airport Terminal 1 departures, WHSmith sits airside after security, so you can grab reading material without backtracking. It’s one of the first shops you see once you clear the checkpoint for the single T1 concourse, handy if you’ve got only 10–15 minutes before boarding starts.

Books run from around £7–£12 for paperbacks, with bestsellers and chart titles stacked by the entrance. You’ll also find travel guides, puzzle books and kids’ stories, along with magazines and newspapers for under £5. Stock skews mainstream: think airport thrillers, crime series and easy reads for a 2–3 hour flight to Europe.

Because it’s a full WHSmith, you also get snacks, cold drinks and basic travel bits alongside the books. Expect bottled water around £1.50–£2, meal-deal style combos at typical UK high-street prices, plus pens, headphones and phone chargers if you forgot something at home. Receipts clearly show “Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Terminal 1” if you need it for expenses.

Lines can form at busy morning waves around 06:00–09:00, especially when several Ryanair and easyJet departures go out of T1 together. Self-checkout tills usually move faster than the single staffed till during these peaks, so scan your book and bottle there if your gate screens show boarding in under 20 minutes.

Practical tip: check your gate number on the overhead screens inside WHSmith before paying; some T1 gates at LPL call boarding 35–40 minutes before departure, so don’t start a new £10 paperback if your flight is already “Go to Gate.”
