€30 at the door gets you views over LPA’s runway

Sala VIP Galdós in T1 sits airside on Floor 1 above the main departures concourse, and it feels like a classic contract lounge: strong drinks and windows, weaker on food and seating. It runs daily from 06:00 to 22:00, and walk-up access is a flat €30, so it works as a paid backup if your airline status or card access falls through.

The entrance sits after security in the Departures Area, up an escalator to the upper level used only for the lounge. Most seating lines the big windows facing the apron at Gran Canaria Airport, so you get solid planespotting as aircraft taxi past T1. Power outlets are dotted around the main seats, and Wi‑Fi is included, which beats wrestling with the airport’s public network during a 3–4 hour wait.

Food swings a lot by time of day: some reviewers report “lots of choice of food, hot, cold and snacks,” while others complain about repetitive pasta and basic hot trays. Expect contract-lounge standards like simple hot dishes, sandwiches and packaged snacks, not a full restaurant. Coffee machines and soft drinks are self-serve, and there’s usually beer, wine and basic spirits on the counter from morning through the evening 22:00 close.

Stays are capped at four hours on some passes and three hours on others, which is still longer than the usual two-hour limit you see at many generic lounges. Families mention using that window to feed kids before late-night departures, and some products allow young children in free with a paying adult. On busy package-flight banks, though, several reviews say the room feels “grubby” and it can be a struggle to find a comfortable chair.

Regulars with Priority Pass or DragonPass treat Sala VIP Galdós as a place to grab “a decent seat, some drinks and snacks” between British Airways flights, not as an office. One BAEC flyer on Finnair metal was denied entry because their boarding pass wasn’t on a BA flight number, so codeshares can be a trap. Avgeeks like to time a visit for daylight hours to watch movements on the apron and runway while sipping a beer.

Practical tip: clear security in T1, head straight up to Floor 1 and check the crowd level through the glass before paying €30 at the desk; if every seat facing the windows is taken, you may be happier at a regular gate seat with coffee downstairs.
