Across from Gate 2 on level 2, this is LIR’s only airside lounge.

The Guanacaste Airport Lounge sits opposite Gate 2 in the main terminal, opens roughly 09:00–17:00, and functions as Liberia’s single post-security lounge option. Access runs through Priority Pass and similar programs, or paid walk-in; flying American Airlines in economy or holding AA status alone does not get you in. Think of it as an upgraded waiting room with AC and Wi‑Fi rather than a full business-class club.

Inside, the space is small, with basic seating and a self-serve snack setup that regulars compare to a modest café rather than a hot buffet. Recent visitors report simple items like chips, cookies, maybe a few cold snacks, plus beer, wine, and soft drinks included in entry. A FlyerTalk poster in May summed it up as “better than nothing,” which is accurate if you’re expecting just a drink and a light bite before your flight.

The bar and drinks selection stay limited but functional: local beer, house wine, and standard spirits, generally all self-serve or quickly poured. Don’t plan a full meal here; use it for one plate of snacks instead of paying terminal restaurant prices for lunch. With the terminal itself mostly just a small food court and a few shops, this trade usually makes financial sense if your Priority Pass visit is free or you’d otherwise buy a sandwich and two drinks landside.

Wi‑Fi is the real perk. Multiple Facebook reports say the lounge network runs noticeably faster and more stable than the public airport Wi‑Fi in the concourse. If you need to download a Netflix episode before a 4‑hour flight or push a big batch of work emails, you’re better off burning a Priority Pass credit here than fighting the shared terminal connection.

Regulars on FlyerTalk time their stay: they show up about 60–75 minutes before departure, grab one drink, a snack plate, use the Wi‑Fi, then head to boarding as soon as their gate calls rows. Capital One and Priority Pass cardholders in the Costa Rica travel Facebook group mainly treat it as a way to avoid paying for two beers and a sandwich in the main terminal.

Watch out for conflicting info about future availability: one FlyerTalk note mentioned a planned closure notice from Priority Pass around January 2025, so double-check your app or airline info before banking on it. Also, the lounge closes by 17:00, so anyone on later evening departures gets no benefit here.

Practical tip: if your flight leaves after 13:00, clear security, head straight upstairs across from Gate 2, and use the lounge Wi‑Fi to get work or downloads done first; you can always wander the few shops in the terminal during the last 20 minutes before boarding.
