Outdoor Terrace

Gate 61 in Terminal C has a rare thing at LGA: fresh air.

The Outdoor Terrace sits just past the Gate 61 seating area in Terminal C, more “public deck” than classic lounge. There’s no check-in desk, no day pass, and it’s open to any passenger already through security in Terminal C. Think of it as an extension of the main concourse rather than a private club.

This space is uncovered but partially sheltered by the terminal’s structure, with direct views onto the LaGuardia ramp near the C60–C62 gate cluster. You’re standing essentially above the taxiway, so you see Delta narrowbodies push back and taxi out at close range. It’s a solid spot to kill 20–30 minutes before boarding, especially if your flight departs from Gates C58–C61 and you don’t want to stray far.

There’s basic seating—metal benches and tables—spread across the terrace, enough for a few dozen people, not a crowd of 200. You won’t find padded lounge chairs, showers, or business cubicles here. Power outlets are limited compared with the indoor gate seating near C61, so charge up at one of the in-terminal work tables before you walk outside with your device.

No food or bar service operates directly on the terrace, and there’s no separate menu. If you want a drink or snack, grab it inside Terminal C from a nearby spot like the concessions around Gates C60–C62, then carry it out. Prices are standard airport-level for Terminal C, not discounted; think typical LGA pricing for bottled water, canned cocktails, and quick-serve sandwiches.

The terrace ties into the overall Delta-led rebuild of Terminal C, so hours generally track when the C concourse is open for departing flights. There’s no posted closing time on official maps, but in practice the doors tend to be accessible during the main operation window from early morning departures through late evening banks. If it’s after midnight and most C gates are dark, expect the outdoor doors near Gate 61 to be locked.

Weather is the big variable. In January, the terrace at Gate 61 feels like the rest of Queens: icy wind off Flushing Bay and plenty of noise from aircraft at the C60 pier. In July, it can be hot and bright, with little shade during midday. Plan for whatever the actual New York forecast says, not climate-controlled comfort.

Practical tip: before stepping out at Gate 61, hit the indoor restrooms in the C60–C61 cluster and top off your battery at a power stand; then bring what you need outside so you’re not shuttling back and forth every 10 minutes.
