Prebooked Hertz cars meet you landside at Lomé–Tokoin (T1)

Hertz runs a car hire counter in the public arrivals hall of Lomé–Tokoin International Airport’s single terminal, T1, just past customs and baggage claim. You’re renting on the landside of the building, so you clear immigration and customs first, then walk 1–2 minutes to the desk. The location focuses on prebooked rentals tied to flight arrivals rather than heavy walk-up traffic.

The counter usually aligns its staffing with peak arrivals, roughly between 06:00–22:00, but exact hours shift with the flight schedule, so confirm by email or voucher before you land. If you’re arriving on a late night flight after 22:00, plan ahead and note your flight number in the reservation; staff in Lomé tend to track specific flight times rather than fixed closing hours. Figure 20–30 minutes from reaching the counter to driving out if your booking is already in the Hertz system.

Cars are parked a short walk from T1, typically 100–200 meters from the arrivals exit in the main airport parking area. Expect compact and mid-size sedans as the main categories, plus a small pool of SUVs suitable for regional trips out of Lomé. Most rentals here are manual transmission; if you need an automatic, reserve that category explicitly in your Hertz booking and print the confirmation page with the exact car class code.

Pricing tends to sit at the higher end of local options, with daily base rates for small cars often starting around the international Hertz price bands shown in your online quote, then adding local taxes and airport surcharges. Insurance is the big variable: Collision Damage Waiver and theft coverage can add a noticeable amount per day, and staff may ask you to initial several lines on a paper contract. Bring a physical credit card with at least one full day’s rental plus a security deposit available.

You’ll need your passport, driver’s license, and a credit card that matches the primary driver’s name for Hertz at LFW. Some agents also ask for an International Driving Permit if your license isn’t in French or English, so it’s safer to carry one. Fuel policy is usually full-to-full; the nearest petrol stations sit within about 5–10 km of the airport on the main road toward central Lomé, so you can top off shortly before returning.

Practical tip: add your flight number and scheduled arrival time in the Hertz reservation notes, then keep the local confirmation number handy on paper or offline, in case your phone data doesn’t kick in immediately at T1.
