Post-security sit-down option when Burger King looks impossible
Beyond World Duty Free in departures, Saltaire Bar and Eatery is one of the few post-security places at Leeds Bradford where you can still sit at a proper table, order a full English or a burger, and get a pint. It’s in the main departures area after security, so you’re already airside and a short walk from most LBA gates. Expect standard pub-style airport food rather than anything fancy, at a solid mid-range $$ price point.
Google reviews consistently give Saltaire around 5 stars for being calmer than the Burger King queue, even when it’s heaving. One flyer called Burger King a “scrum” and said they still managed to get a table and a beer here while waiting for their gate. Food runs to fry-ups, burgers, chips, and similar “airport bar” staples, with draught beer and spirits behind the bar. Portions read as normal UK pub size rather than tiny tapas plates.
Regulars who pass through LBA more than a few times a year say they only sit down for a full meal here if they’ve got well over an hour before departure. Multiple reviews mention waiting 20–40 minutes for food at peak times and, in a few cases, almost missing flights. Quite a few frequent flyers treat it as a drinks stop: one pint and maybe fries, then move on when the gate is announced.
Watch out for airport-inflated pricing: several locals compare it unfavourably to pubs in Leeds or Bradford city centre, saying a simple burger and drink can nudge toward £20. Service speed swings a lot with volume; at 05:30 on a Tuesday you might be in and out in 25 minutes, at a Saturday midday in school holidays you could be clock-watching. Staff do bring food to the table, which is why people pick it over takeaway spots when every seat in the main area is taken.
Practical tip: from the main departures seating, glance over at Saltaire before committing — if you can see three or more empty tables, you probably have time for a drink; if it’s wall-to-wall, grab a snack elsewhere and head to your gate instead.
