Terminal 7 hosts 2 airlines. It's American Airlines's home turf at LAX. You'll find 3 dining options, 2 lounges, 1 shop here.
United’s main LAX operation lives in Terminal 7
Terminal 7 handles almost all United and United Express flights at LAX, sitting just before compact Terminal 8 on the horseshoe. If your boarding pass shows gates in the 70s, you’re here. The concourse runs in a straight line with gates 70A/B through the high 70s, so walking end to end takes about 10–12 minutes at a normal pace.
Layout and getting through security
Security for T7 sits on the departures level, directly above the Terminal 7 parking structure across World Way. Lines vary: early morning United pushes (around 6:00–8:00 a.m.) and late-night redeyes (after 9:00 p.m.) tend to be the slowest. TSA PreCheck and CLEAR both operate here, and once you’re past screening you can walk airside to Terminal 8 for extra seating and a few more gates in roughly 5 minutes.
United Club and Polaris Lounge
The main United Club in Terminal 7 sits near gate 71A and usually opens around 4:30 a.m. for the first departures, closing after the last United bank around 12:30 a.m. Standard domestic lounge fare: basic hot snacks, coffee machines, soda fountain, and a staffed bar with house drinks included and premiums for sale. Power outlets run under almost every window seat, but they fill fast before the 7:00 a.m. Newark and Chicago flights.
The United Polaris Lounge is upstairs near the 70 gates and is only for long-haul United business class and select Star Alliance premium passengers. Dining here is more serious: made‑to‑order dishes in the sit‑down section, plus a buffet with salads and at least one pasta or rice option. Showers are in high demand before the late evening departures to London and Sydney, so putting your name down as soon as you enter saves a 30–40 minute wait.
Food: Engine Co. No. 28, B Grill, Wolfgang Puck Express
Engine Co. No. 28, based on a downtown LA restaurant, sits airside near gate 70B and serves burgers, fried chicken and salads. Expect airport pricing: a burger with fries usually lands around $18–$20 before tax and tip. Portions are big enough to share if you just need something to hold you through a 4–5 hour transcon.
B Grill by BOA Steakhouse is closer to the mid‑concourse gates, near 72, and leans into steakhouse‑style plates, including a basic filet and a burger. Draft beer and cocktails are common orders here, and a steak entrée can easily run $28–$35. If you only have 30 minutes before boarding, stick to the burger or a salad; the full steak plates can drag service time.
Wolfgang Puck Express sits toward the higher 70s gates and focuses on pizzas, pastas and sandwiches. Personal pizzas run in the $14–$17 range and come out quicker than the pasta dishes during rush periods. Lines spike around noon and again around 6:00 p.m., so factor in 15–20 minutes from ordering to having food in hand.
Shops and basics
A couple of Hudson shops dot the concourse, including one near gate 70A and another closer to gate 75, carrying bottled water, snacks, neck pillows and last‑minute chargers. A standard 20 oz bottle of water often runs about $4–$5. ATMs sit near the main restroom clusters, and you’ll find larger restrooms roughly every 3–4 gates along the concourse.
One last tip
If you have a tight United-to-United connection under 45 minutes, skip sit‑down dining and grab something from Wolfgang Puck Express or Hudson near your onward gate; the walk from one end of Terminal 7 to Terminal 8 can quietly eat 10 minutes off your buffer.
