Ford's Filling Station

Gate-side in Terminal 5, this is your sit-down option

Ford's Filling Station sits airside in LAX Terminal 5, a step up from grabbing yet another $16 sandwich from a cooler. It runs typical terminal hours, generally from early-morning departures through the last Delta bank at night, so you can usually count on a real meal before or after a transcon. Expect mains in the $18–$28 range, with burgers, salads, and shareable plates that beat most pre-pack salads on the concourse.

The menu leans American comfort: think a bacon cheeseburger around $22, fries big enough to split, and flatbreads that land in the $17–$20 bracket. There’s a full bar with draft beer, basic wines by the glass, and cocktails in the $15–$18 range. Portions run larger than what you’ll get from most Terminal 5 grab-and-go stands, so one entrée can carry you through a 5–6 hour cross-country segment.

Service speed matters here: on a calm day, you can get in and out in about 40 minutes; during a heavy Delta departure wave at T5, budget closer to 60. Solo flyers can usually snag a bar seat faster than a table, especially around the 6–8 a.m. and 5–8 p.m. peaks. It’s an easy walk from most T5 gates, including the bus gate swings near 51A–51B, so you’re rarely more than 5–7 minutes away.

Watch out for the check creeping up if you start stacking drinks; two cocktails and an entrée can hit $50–$60 with tax and tip. Power outlets at some tables help if your phone is limping toward a long-haul from T5, but don’t count on every seat having a plug. One practical tip: if your layover is under 50 minutes, skip a full sit-down and order a burger or flatbread to go from the bar, then eat at the gate near your boarding group sign.
