Gate-side pies in Terminal 1
Terminal 1’s California Pizza Kitchen sits post-security near the main Southwest gates, so you’re eating within sight of the departure boards. It runs typical airport hours, roughly early morning through the last bank of Southwest flights, and functions as a full-service sit-down spot rather than a grab-and-go counter. If you’ve got 60–90 minutes before boarding, this is one of the few places in T1 where a proper meal still fits.
Menu is standard CPK: individual pizzas, pastas, salads, and flatbreads, with most mains landing in the $16–$24 range. Expect the usual suspects like the Original BBQ Chicken Pizza and a Margherita, plus Caesar and chopped salads for something lighter. Portions match downtown locations, so one pizza easily covers a solo traveler and can stretch to two if you add a salad.
There’s a full bar with California-focused wine by the glass and basic cocktails, and beers typically run around $9–$12. If you’re watching the clock, bar seating often turns faster than the tables, especially during the afternoon Southwest rush between about 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. Ask for your check when mains arrive if your boarding time is under 40 minutes away.
Expect LAX pricing and standard airport service pace: food can take 20–30 minutes during peak departures from gates 9–18. If your flight starts boarding at T-30, stick to a salad or split a pizza instead of ordering pasta. Takeout is usually an option, so you can box up leftovers and walk them straight to the gate.
Practical tip: Check your gate number on the nearby Terminal 1 monitors before sitting down; if you’re out by the higher teens, give yourself at least 10–15 minutes to walk back from California Pizza Kitchen to avoid a last-minute sprint.
