Star Golds get into this TBIT lounge even on domestic United

The Star Alliance Lounge sits airside in Terminal B at LAX (Tom Bradley), signed as Star Alliance Lounge on the main concourse. Follow the TBIT lounge corridor toward the central cluster and watch for the Star Alliance logo rather than any single airline name. You need a same‑day Star Alliance boarding pass out of TBIT plus Star Gold status or eligible premium‑cabin access; many people miss that domestic United in economy still qualifies if you hold Star Gold.

This lounge runs long-haul bank hours that mirror late‑afternoon and evening departures from Terminal B, so it tends to feel busiest around the 19:00–23:00 wave to Asia and Europe. It’s one of the few LAX lounges with an indoor–outdoor setup, including a terrace that looks over the main TBIT atrium. If your flight goes from Terminal 7 or 8, budget at least 20–25 minutes to walk and use the airside connectors between 4 and B, then onward to the United gates.

Food sits at a self‑serve buffet with hot dishes, salads, and snacks; frequent flyers say it’s “better than a regular United Club” but still a notch below the Polaris dining room for a proper pre‑long‑haul meal. You’ll usually see at least one pasta or rice dish plus a protein, soups, and desserts, with alcohol included at the bar. If you care about a plated restaurant‑style dinner, save that for Polaris; if you just want to eat properly before a 10–13 hour flight, the buffet here does the job.

Drinks run from house wines and basic beer to mixed drinks from the staffed bar, with espresso machines and soft drinks on the side. The bar tends to back up in the 21:00 hour as multiple widebodies board from the nearby gates, so order two drinks at once if you’re cutting it close before, say, an ANA, EVA, or Lufthansa departure out of Terminal B. Water stations sit near the buffet, so you can easily refill a bottle.

Regular United and Star Gold travelers often walk over from Terminal 7/8 to TBIT purely for this lounge instead of using the United Clubs, trading a 15–20 minute trek for a better setting and outdoor space. Flyers on domestic United segments into LAX, then onward international on ANA, EVA, or Singapore, commonly use their Star Gold status here in economy or premium economy. Lounge agents are used to these mixed‑cabin itineraries, so have your digital card and both boarding passes ready to speed things up.

Watch out for: food here gets described as “fine, not special” on FlyerTalk when compared directly with Polaris at LAX, so don’t skip a strong meal in the terminal if you’re hungry before a very late departure. Also, seating near power outlets goes quickly during the evening rush, and the terrace fills first when the weather cooperates.

One tip: if you’re landing in Terminal 7 on United and connecting out of Terminal B, re‑clear your gate situation first, then head straight here and give yourself a solid 60–90 minute buffer to justify the walk, shower, a meal, and a quick sit outside before boarding.
