KOA’s Main Terminal has Burger King coffee, not Peet’s
At Ellison Onizuka Kona (KOA) Main Terminal, Peet’s Coffee & Tea does not appear on any current concession lists, Reddit threads, or FlyerTalk reports. Regulars name Burger King, a bar, a gift shop, and a small local coffee stand, but never Peet’s by name. If you roll up expecting your usual Peet’s latte before a UA or AS flight, you’re out of luck here.
Travelers on r/travel and Flyertalk put it bluntly: coffee options mentioned at KOA are Burger King and one local stand, with “no Peet’s or Starbucks” cited in a 2021 KOA food thread. That matches airport flyers’ notes that KOA remains pretty bare-bones, even during morning bank departures around 7:00–9:00 a.m. Plan like there is zero chain specialty coffee on either side of security.
Hardcore Peet’s fans from the Bay Area and West Coast say they lose access to their usual Major Dickason’s or dark roast the moment they land on the Big Island, KOA included. On Reddit’s r/SanFrancisco and r/United, several mention buying Peet’s beans at home, then brewing at their Kona condo or hotel instead of searching the terminal for a Peet’s that isn’t there.
What regulars actually do on departure day: they hit a local café in Kailua-Kona or along Highway 19 for a 6:00–9:00 a.m. caffeine stop, then head to KOA with their drink already in hand. Others brew in their room using Peet’s beans they brought in their checked bag or carry-on, filling a travel mug before the ~15–20 minute drive to the airport.
Watch out for mixed online info: some general Hawaiʻi coffee discussions mention Peet’s in Honolulu or on the mainland, but KOA threads from 2019–2024 stay consistent about “no Peet’s here.” If you are loyal to a specific Peet’s roast or espresso, pack your own beans or pods and do not budget airport time hunting for this brand.
Practical tip: treat Peet’s Coffee & Tea at KOA as nonexistent and lock in your caffeine plan in town or at your accommodation before you hit Main Terminal security.
