BA and Iberia flights only: Terminal 7 is the stray oneworld corner of JFK

Terminal 7 sits on the north side of JFK, handling British Airways and Iberia flights plus a few partner lounge setups, and it feels more like a compact international field than a mega-hub. The check-in hall has a short run of BA desks toward the center, Iberia off to one side, and security usually queues back toward the middle doors in the evening BA bank. If you’re hopping terminals, the AirTrain stop is clearly marked as “Terminal 7” and connects to 1, 4, 5, and 8 in under 10 minutes train time.

Security here is one main checkpoint near the center of the building, with PreCheck and priority lanes open for most of the BA evening departures around 18:00–23:00. Lines can spike around the 20:00 transatlantic push, so 90 minutes before departure for short-haul Iberia to Madrid or long-haul BA to London is the real minimum. Land-side food is thin, so plan to get through the checkpoint before eating; Starbucks and the better food options all sit past security in the main concourse.

Post-security, the concourse runs roughly in a bent L-shape, with gates 1–6 toward the left and higher-numbered gates stretching out to the right. Apartment 7B Deli & Market sits near gate 6 and works as the quick “grab a sandwich and a drink” stop if boarding has already started. Expect airport pricing: think $12–$15 for a sandwich and about $4 for bottled water. It’s basic, but it beats going hungry on a short overnight if you’re in a non-upgraded economy seat.

Bento Sushi offers made-ahead rolls and combo boxes closer to the central part of the concourse, useful if you want something lighter than a full hot meal before a BA flight to Heathrow. Look for clear plastic packs in refrigerated cases, usually in the $10–$16 range, alongside bottled soft drinks. Quality is fine if you grab fresher packs; check the timestamp sticker and skip anything sitting past 3–4 hours.

Le Grand Comptoir anchors one of the main sit-down options in Terminal 7, set near the middle gates with bar stools facing the concourse windows. You’re paying around $12–$18 for small plates and $10+ for a glass of wine, so treat it as “kill an hour with a drink” rather than “value dinner.” Service pace can slow down when multiple BA widebodies board within 45 minutes, so pad at least 45–60 minutes if you want a proper sit-down meal before a late-night departure.

Wolfgang Puck Express gives you the predictable pizza-and-pasta play, usually somewhere in the $14–$20 range for mains, and it sits within a short walk of the central departures board. If you need something recognizable for kids before a BA or Iberia overnight, this is the easiest call. Starbucks handles the caffeine load for early Iberia and mid-morning BA departures, with lines around 10 minutes long near 07:00 and 16:00; mobile ordering isn’t always reliable, so build that into your boarding-time math.

On the retail side, Hudson runs the usual magazines, snacks, and last-minute charger rack, with locations close to several gates so you can keep an eye on your boarding group. Better+ and America! sell branded New York and USA merch, including hoodies, caps, and basic travel accessories that creep into the $30–$60 zone. If you forgot a plug adapter for the UK or Spain, check these shops before you head down to the lower gate numbers.

Lounge-wise, the Aer Lingus Lounge operates here as a partner space, with access rules tied to premium-cabin or oneworld-aligned tickets, and usually opens a few hours before late-afternoon and evening departures. The Alaska Lounge Partner Area and a United Club also live in Terminal 7 as contract options, mainly serving as quiet zones with basic hot food, beer, and wine. Figure lounges opening roughly 3–4 hours before the big BA departure bank; check your specific flight time and boarding pass, since not every economy ticket gets you in.

One last tip: power outlets are not at every seat near the gates, so if you see a working plug near Hudson or Starbucks with more than 70 minutes before boarding for your BA or Iberia flight, claim it early and top everything to 100% before the overnight.
