By Gate 42 in T8, this is your duty free stop

BKLYN Shopping Duty Free sits by Gate 42 in Terminal 8, right in the main international departures flow. It’s standard airport duty free: liquor, perfume, cosmetics, tobacco, and candy, all in one open-plan shop. Prices track typical duty free ranges, with liquor usually a bit under US street prices and big-brand fragrances often running 10–20% off regular retail, depending on promos.

This is post-security in T8, so you only reach it after clearing TSA and heading toward the Gate 40–42 cluster. Figure 5–10 minutes’ walk from the main security checkpoint if you’re starting near the AA check-in area. Because it’s a generic duty free format, you’ll see the usual international labels rather than hyper-local Brooklyn goods, despite the name on the sign.

Buy spirits and fragrances here; those tend to be the better value compared with downtown New York. Chocolates and snacks often come in big multi-pack boxes that look cheaper but can run higher per ounce than a normal Hudson or Hudson News in T8. Tobacco shelves are present but follow outbound rules, so pay attention to your destination’s duty limits rather than what’s on display.

Lines spike around evening long-haul banks, especially near the 18:00–22:00 departure window when multiple transatlantic flights leave from Terminal 8. Factor 10 extra minutes if your flight is in that block. Quick tip: if you’re short on time and departing from another T8 gate, hit this shop on the way to boarding rather than doubling back to the bigger central stores; Gate 42 is at the far end of that pier.
