Yellow Garage

Short‑term Terminal 5 and 6 area

Hourly rates here jump quickly after the first 30 minutes.

Yellow Garage sits by the Terminal 5 and former Terminal 6 area at JFK and runs as the short-term option for this side of the airport. It’s meant for drop-offs, quick pickups, and same-day meetings, not multi-day trips. Pay stations accept major credit cards, and you pull a ticket on entry, so keep it handy for exit. Elevators connect each parking level directly to the pedestrian walkways toward Terminal 5.

Terminal 5 is roughly a 3–7 minute walk from the Yellow Garage, depending on level and mobility. Follow the clearly marked yellow “Terminal 5” signs from the stairwells and elevators. Covered access helps when the weather turns bad, and you stay under a roof for almost the entire walk. If you’re hauling checked-size luggage, budget an extra 5 minutes to deal with elevators and crowds at peak JetBlue bank times.

Yellow Garage pricing tracks JFK’s short-term rate structure, with the meter running by the half hour, then switching into a higher cap after a few hours. Past the 24-hour point, daily rates usually beat ride-share only if you’re under two days. Past 48 hours, you’re better off in Long-Term Parking or an off-airport lot. Pay attention to posted time limits by level; some rows closer to the exits turn over faster and see more patrols.

Entry is from the Terminal 5 access road, and spaces closest to the terminal elevators tend to fill first during the morning rush between about 6:00 and 9:00 a.m. If you’re arriving during that window, head straight to higher levels, often level 5 or above, where open spaces appear more reliably. Height clearance here fits standard SUVs and crossovers, but oversized vans and tall roof racks can be an issue, so check the board at the ramp before committing.

Tip: screenshot your parking level and row number before you walk to Terminal 5; cell service in the lower levels can drop out and it saves a lot of wandering at midnight pickup time.
