Gate-side in Terminal 1, this is Lufthansa’s main Business lounge
The Lufthansa Business Lounge sits airside in JFK Terminal 1, after security and near the Star Alliance carriers’ gates. You need a same-day Star Alliance boarding pass with Business Class or qualifying status for entry. Figure 10–15 minutes to walk here from the furthest T1 security lane, especially during the late-afternoon Europe bank when most long-haul flights depart.
Hours typically track the evening wave of departures from Terminal 1, with the lounge focused around Lufthansa and Star Alliance transatlantic banks. That means it’s most useful if you’re on a late-afternoon or night flight to Europe from T1, not as a morning work base. Always check same-day hours, as closing can slide once the last Lufthansa or partner flight pushes from the gate.
The space targets Lufthansa and other Star Alliance passengers out of Terminal 1, including airlines like Air France and Korean Air that share the terminal but run separate lounges or contracts. Access generally follows standard Star Alliance Business rules: Business Class on a same-day Star Alliance flight or Star Alliance Gold in any cabin. Economy and Premium Economy passengers need status or an eligible same-day Business boarding pass from a partner.
Food and drink lean toward self-serve buffet and standard bar, closer to what you see in a typical European Business lounge than a big US flagship. Expect hot and cold items rather than made-to-order dining, with soft drinks, beer, wine, and basic spirits included. If you care about a real sit-down meal, price out restaurant options in Terminal 1 and compare; a glass of wine in the terminal often runs well over $15, so lounge drinks can offset some of the value.
Power outlets sit around seating clusters, so bring a 2–3 meter charging cable if you plan to work; some older seats in Terminal 1 lounges still lack easy reach sockets. Wi‑Fi is free and usually faster than the main terminal network, which can bog down when several A380 and 747 flights depart in the same two-hour window. Noise rises sharply in the 16:00–21:00 period as multiple long-hauls board from the same pier.
One practical tip: with JFK Terminal 1 security often running 25–40 minutes in the afternoon, clear TSA first, then head straight to the Lufthansa Business Lounge and eat or work there rather than lingering landside.
