KAIA Aquarium

Attraction

1

Opposite the food court in Terminal 1, KAIA Aquarium is hard to miss.

This walk-by attraction sits landside in King Abdulaziz International Airport’s Terminal 1, so you can visit even before check-in. It’s essentially a tall central tank with saltwater fish, right in the main departures hall. Figure on 5–10 minutes if you’re just doing a quick look, or longer if you’ve got kids who want to stare down every clownfish.

You don’t need a ticket or timed slot to see KAIA Aquarium, and there’s no separate entry fee posted as of 2024. It’s free to stand around the glass and take photos, and you can see it clearly from multiple sides of the hall. Most people pass by on the way to check-in desks for Saudia and other carriers in T1, then circle back once bags are dropped.

The tank runs floor-to-ceiling with lighting that stays on late into the night, matching Terminal 1’s long-haul bank of departures that often stretches past 23:00. Fish density isn’t on the level of a big city aquarium, but it’s enough color and movement to break up a long wait. Seating nearby is limited, so expect to stand or grab one of the fixed benches within 20–30 meters if you want to linger.

Tip: if you’re meeting family off an arriving flight into Terminal 1, use the KAIA Aquarium as your landmark and agree to meet on the public side of the tank before heading to check-in or the security queue.
