Gate-side reading fix in Terminal 1
Just past security in Terminal 1, Hadeel Bookstore is one of the few spots at JED where you can grab something proper to read before a long haul. It sits airside in the main departures area, so you can swing by on the way to most international gates without backtracking far.
Stock leans heavily on Arabic titles, with a smaller English section that usually covers bestsellers, general fiction, and a few travel-related books; prices tend to track normal Saudi retail rather than inflated “airport only” tags, so expect around 40–80 SAR for paperbacks. You’ll also find basic stationery and notebooks on the shelves, which can plug the gap if you forgot a pen for immigration forms.
Because it’s in Terminal 1’s main concourse rather than down a pier, it works as a last-minute stop even with a 30–40 minute boarding buffer. Children’s books and simple activity titles are on a separate rack, handy if you’re trying to keep kids occupied on a Jeddah–Riyadh hop or an overnight connection.
Opening hours generally track the long-haul banks in Terminal 1, so late-night and early-morning flights still see the lights on. One practical tip: pick something up here before you head to quieter end-gates, as smaller gate areas in T1 often lack any meaningful reading options beyond duty free and snacks.
