Gate-side sports bar fallback when your IND flight runs late

Champps sits in the Main terminal past security at Indianapolis International, filling the role of the airport sports bar with full table service. Screens run with ESPN and whatever Colts, Pacers, college, or NFL game is on that day, so people camp here instead of at the gate during delays. Expect mid-range prices ($$): burgers and sandwiches running around standard airport pricing rather than fast-food cheap.

The menu leans classic bar food: burgers, wings, flatbreads, and salads alongside draft beer and basic cocktails. Think “airport sports bar” and you’re in the right zone. Portions run larger than grab-and-go in the Main terminal, and it’s one of the few spots where you can sit down with a server instead of hovering near a power outlet. If you want a real chair, real table, and a TV near your gate, this is one of the more realistic options in IND.

Service gets mixed notes: one Google review calls it a “decent place to watch a game” but another points out the check took too long before boarding. Multiple reviews mention slow service during big sporting events, especially when the bar is full and every TV is locked onto the same game. Build at least a 45–60 minute buffer if you plan to sit, eat, and pay before a departure in a busy sports window like NFL Sundays or March Madness.

Watch out for:

  • Slow ticket times when Champps is packed during a 1:00 p.m. Sunday kickoff or prime-time playoff game.
  • Checks that lag; several travelers mention waiting 10–15 extra minutes just to close out before boarding.

Practical tip: if your departure is inside 30 minutes, skip full table service at Champps at IND’s Main terminal and grab something to go elsewhere, then come here only for a quick drink at the bar if a stool is open.
