Terminal E’s quieter bar option sits by gate E1: Beerhive.
Beerhive lives airside in Terminal E, right by gate E1, and usually flies under the radar compared to Pappadeaux or the sports bars deeper in the concourse. It’s a straight bar setup with a focus on beer, so think pints, bottles, and a few basic cocktails rather than a full restaurant scene. Being post-security in E, it’s handy if you’re on United long-haul or an international Star Alliance flight leaving from the nearby E gates.
Draft lists rotate a bit, but you’ll typically see several domestic macros plus a couple of Texas names in the $9–$13 range, which is standard IAH airport pricing in 2026. Food, if available during your visit, runs to simple bar bites rather than full entrees, so plan on a snack, not dinner. If you want fried seafood or heavier plates, Pappadeaux in Terminal A or the Pappas spots in C are better value for an actual meal.
Seating runs mainly along the bar rail with a few small tables, and it can fill quickly in the late-afternoon international bank around 3–7 p.m., especially when multiple E1–E12 departures cluster together. Morning flights out of E see lighter traffic, so a 9–11 a.m. layover can mean an easier time grabbing a stool and a quick beer before boarding. There’s no table service beyond bar staff, so expect to order and close out directly at the counter.
Beerhive doesn’t really feature in FlyerTalk or Reddit IAH bar threads, which usually jump straight to Pappadeaux or the sports bar closer to E12. That low profile can work in your favor when nearby spots overflow before a 777 or 787 departure. One practical tip: if your gate shows E1–E3 and boarding is within 45 minutes, stop here first, pay as you go, and sit within sight of the monitors so you can walk to the door in under two minutes when your group pops up.
