Terminal B hosts 3 airlines across 31 gates. You'll find 6 dining options, 4 lounges, 9 shops here.
Most non-United flights at IAD leave from Concourse B
Concourse B runs as a long linear pier with roughly 31 gates used by JetBlue, Alaska Airlines, Southwest, and most foreign carriers. It sits directly on the AeroTrain line, so you ride to the B station and walk straight into the concourse without taking a mobile lounge. If you’re connecting from C/D, factor in the train ride plus a 5–10 minute walk on each end.
JetBlue flights usually group toward the mid-B area, while Alaska and Southwest tend to work the outer portions of the pier. Signage at IAD lists gates strictly by letter and number, so watch for gate ranges instead of airline names. If your boarding pass only says “B Gates,” give yourself at least 15–20 minutes from the AeroTrain platform to reach the far high-numbered gates like B71.
Food runs from Smashburger at A3 to Five Guys at B71
Concourse B shares some options with A, including Smashburger near gate A3 on the walk between A and B. Inside B proper, Carrabba's Italian Grill sits near B41 and works well for a full meal with table service and wine by the glass. For something quicker, Five Guys near B71 handles burgers and fries, while Brioche Dorée closer to the center of B works for coffee and pastries on early-morning departures before 9 a.m.
Vino Volo in Concourse B focuses on wine flights and small plates, and it often has more open seats than the nearby bar setups during the 5–8 p.m. bank of transatlantic departures. If you just want something basic, the Subway signed as C2 is technically off the concourse but reachable via the A/B–C/D connector; count on 10–12 minutes walk time each way, which doesn’t make sense on a tight connection.
Four Star Alliance lounges plus BA and Turkish sit off B
The Lufthansa Business Lounge and Lufthansa Senator Lounge both serve Star Alliance passengers flying from B, especially the late-afternoon Frankfurt and Munich banks around 5–10 p.m. The Turkish Airlines Lounge in this zone often opens ahead of midday departures to Istanbul and runs through the evening peak. British Airways Galleries Lounge serves BA’s London flights and can get crowded in the 6–9 p.m. window, so expect lines for showers then.
Access rules vary: Lufthansa Senator targets Star Gold and premium-cabin tickets, while the Business Lounge takes most Star Alliance business-class travelers and eligible cardholders. Turkish and BA follow their own alliance and class-of-service policies, and staff at check-in desks in the Main Terminal can print lounge invitations that list exactly which lounge door to use. Build a 10-minute buffer from lounge to gate if you’re at the far end of B, especially near B71.
Duty free sits in the B atrium, with brand shops along the spine
Duty Free – Atrium B anchors the middle of the concourse and mainly serves outbound international flights to Europe and the Middle East, with typical liquor and fragrance pricing competitive for USD and EUR. Hudson News units appear every few gate clusters, so you rarely walk more than 3–4 minutes for water or snacks. DC Marketplace carries local-branded merch tied to Washington teams and monuments, useful for last-minute gifts when you’re already past security.
Brooks Brothers, Montblanc, and Lids line the central stretch of B, roughly between B30 and B50, while iTravel 2 and InMotion Entertainment cover chargers, headphones, and cables if you forgot a USB-C brick. CNN Newsstand combines magazines and basic travel items; it usually stays open until the last wave of evening departures around 10 p.m. One tip: if you land early at a low B gate like B20 and need coffee, walk toward the B atrium instead of back toward A3—the central cluster has more options within a 5-minute radius.
