Gate-side grain bowls in the IAD Main Terminal

This Cava sits in the Main Terminal after security, handy if you’re using the Z gates or waiting for the mobile lounge out to A, B, C, or D. It runs through most flight banks, typically opening by early morning and staying open into the evening rush, so you can grab something before a 7 a.m. departure or a 9 p.m. arrival. Expect fast-casual counter service and a short walk from the central security area.

Pricing runs in the low-to-mid teens: a standard bowl or pita usually lands around $11–$14 before tax, with extras like avocado or additional protein adding a couple of dollars. Portions are airport-sized generous, so one bowl comfortably covers a single long-haul. Drinks are the usual fountain sodas and bottled options, with prices a bit higher than street locations, as you’d expect at IAD.

Menu is the standard Cava setup: grains or salad base, proteins like harissa chicken, falafel, and spicy lamb meatballs, plus toppings and sauces. If you want something that holds up on a 5-hour flight, go heavier on grains and skip the messier dressings. Pitas eat well at the gate but get soggy if you wait until wheels-up.

Lines build around the 6–8 a.m. and 4–7 p.m. banks, especially when multiple United banks are feeding through the Main Terminal. Figure 10–15 minutes from joining the line to walking away with food during those peaks, faster in the off-hours. One practical move: check your gate first, then grab your bowl here before riding the AeroTrain or mobile lounge out to A–D so you’re not stuck with only snack kiosks near a remote gate.
