Airside Bar

Most bar talk at HRE is actually about the lounges

At Robert Gabriel Mugabe International (HRE), frequent flyers name-check Pearl Lounge more than any standalone airport bar, so “Airside Bar” functions more as a generic label for the terminal’s pay-as-you-go alcohol options than a clearly documented, branded spot. You’ll find bar counters airside in both the International and Domestic areas, usually a short walk from the main gate clusters, offering basic beers and spirits to fill the gap if you don’t have lounge access.

Post-security in the International terminal, pricing on drinks at these bar counters tends to sit in typical regional airport territory: expect roughly mid-range hotel bar numbers for a standard lager or local beer, and a few dollars more for mixed drinks with imported spirits like whisky or gin. Food options at these counters are usually limited to simple bar snacks rather than full hot meals, so plan to eat at a main restaurant in the terminal if you want anything more substantial than chips or nuts with your drink.

The better-stocked bar setups often sit near larger gates handling long-haul or regional African routes, so check the area around your specific gate number 45–60 minutes before boarding rather than camping at the first counter you see after duty free. Beer is typically the safest bet; mixed drinks can vary in strength and presentation depending on who is pouring that day, and wine lists are usually short with a couple of by-the-glass options at most.

Lounge access still changes the equation at HRE: the Pearl Lounge, for example, includes alcoholic drinks within its entry fee or airline-invited access, and it sits airside beyond International security. If you’re flying in economy and don’t have status, compare the cost of two drinks at an open bar counter against the posted Pearl Lounge walk-in price; on a longer layover over 2 hours, paying once for lounge entry can work out cheaper than multiple rounds at a standalone bar.

Practical tip: check your boarding pass and confirm whether your flight departs Domestic or International before settling at any bar counter; HRE’s areas are separated, and walking back through the wrong concourse can easily chew up 10–15 minutes you don’t have before final call.
