Gate-side kids’ break spot in Terminal 1
This Children’s Play Area sits airside in Terminal 1 at William P. Hobby Airport, handy if your Southwest flight leaves from the main concourse. It’s an enclosed zone aimed at young kids, so they’re not climbing over seats at gate 25 while you’re trying to juggle boarding groups and snacks.
You’ll find the play area after security in Terminal 1, in the general gate cluster used by most Southwest departures, so you don’t have to reclear TSA to pop in. Figure on giving yourself at least 20–30 minutes here if you want the kids to actually burn off some energy before you start lining up for Group B.
There’s no entry fee and no formal hours posted, but it runs on the same schedule as the Terminal 1 concourse, which typically opens well before the first departures around 5:00 a.m. and stays active until the last evening flights. Seating for adults is limited, so one parent usually stands while the other grabs coffee from a nearby terminal snack stand.
The play area doesn’t have staff watching the kids, so you’re still on duty. It’s basic airport entertainment, not a full playground, but it beats letting a three‑year‑old do laps past gate 23. Build in a bathroom stop at the closest Terminal 1 restrooms before you head over so you don’t have to pull them out mid-play.
