Gate-area Greek stop in Terminal 1
Yia Yia Mary's sits airside in Terminal 1 at William P. Hobby Airport, a few minutes' walk from most Southwest gates. It's one of the rare full-service options in this terminal, so you can actually sit down instead of hovering by a bar. You order from a Greek-American menu heavy on gyros, grilled meats, and big salads, then pay at the end like a normal restaurant, not a food court stall.
Menu pricing runs in the $12–$20 range for mains, with gyros and souvlaki plates usually landing closer to $15. Portions reportedly come out larger than the typical airport sandwich, and you can get a side of fries, rice, or a small Greek salad without adding a crazy surcharge. Beer and wine are available by the bottle or glass, and you can get a basic mixed drink if you don't want to sit at a separate bar elsewhere in Terminal 1.
Go-to orders here: a classic lamb or chicken gyro, spanakopita, and the Greek salad with feta and olives. The pita tends to arrive warm, and the tzatziki has more flavor than the usual airport ranch stand-in. If you're short on time, a gyro wrapped to go is faster than waiting on a full plate with sides. Desserts lean sweet and heavy, with baklava often on the board for around $5–$7.
Service pace depends heavily on the rush around Southwest banks, especially in the morning and late afternoon when flights cluster at gates in Terminal 1. Allow at least 45 minutes if you want to sit, order, eat, and still walk back to a gate near the far end of the concourse. For a quick bite before boarding, ask for the check as soon as your food lands and pay right away.
Practical tip: if your flight boards from a high-number gate in Terminal 1, grab a table closer to the concourse side so you can watch the screens and walk 5–7 minutes to your gate without cutting it close.
