Papa John's

Gate-side pizza fix in Terminal 1

Papa John's sits past security in Terminal 1 at William P. Hobby Airport, right in the main concourse near several Southwest gates. It's one of the few spots here doing made-to-order whole pizzas and slices, so it tends to draw a line in the evenings after 5 p.m. when the Houston departures bank is heavy.

Menu is exactly what you know from street-side Papa John's: pepperoni, cheese, sausage, and specialty pies, plus breadsticks and a few dessert items. A single slice usually lands in the $5–$7 range, with whole pizzas running closer to $18–$24 depending on toppings. Fountain drinks come in airport-sized cups and run around $4–$5.

They generally open by 6 a.m. with limited options and run until around the last flights, often 9–10 p.m., but hours can shift with the schedule, especially on weekends. Morning choices skew toward reheated slices and basic sides, so if you want something fresh out of the oven, aim for mid-day or early evening when turnover is higher.

Quality is standard chain-level: decent if you catch a fresh pie, pretty forgettable if it has been sitting under the heat lamps more than 20–30 minutes. If you care at all, ask how long the current pizza has been out and wait the 10–12 minutes for a new cheese or pepperoni. Breadsticks are usually a safer bet during slower periods.

Lines can stack up 8–9 a.m. and again 4–7 p.m., especially when multiple Southwest flights out of Terminal 1 board at once. Build at least a 15–20 minute buffer from joining the line to walking away with food in hand if your boarding time is close.

Tip: If you're grabbing a whole pizza to share at the gate, order first, then hit the nearby drink stand or restroom; a fresh large pie often takes the full 12–15 minutes during peak times.
