Gate 21 in Terminal 1 is where you’ll find Chalo

Chalo sits just past security near Gate 21 in Terminal 1, so it works well if you’re flying Southwest out of the 20s gates at Hobby (HOU). It’s one of the very few Indian options in the airport and focuses on quick-service plates you can get in under 15–20 minutes during normal rush periods.

This is a local Indian spot, not a generic chain, and the menu leans toward familiar dishes: think tikka-style curries, rice bowls, and flatbreads in the $12–$18 range. You order at the counter, grab your drink, and wait for your number; there are a handful of tables plus some counter seating facing the Terminal 1 concourse near Gate 21.

Portions here run bigger than most airport grab-and-go: a curry bowl with rice and naan can be enough for one hungry traveler or two light eaters. Spice levels tend to skew on the mild side compared with Houston’s off-airport Indian, so if you like heat, say so when you order. Expect the usual soft drinks and bottled water in the $3–$5 band, with beer options varying by day and delivery.

Food comes out in disposable containers that travel decently if you need to walk back toward gates 18–22. Sauces can pool, so ask for extra napkins and a second lid if you plan to carry it onto a 2–3 hour flight. On short connections under 40 minutes, the line plus prep time at Chalo near Gate 21 may feel tight; hit a pre-made option elsewhere if your boarding group is already lining up.

Practical tip: if you’re in Terminal 1 and want hot food before an evening departure after 7 pm, check Chalo first near Gate 21, then pivot to nearby fast food if the line is backed up to the main concourse bend.
