Once you grab your suitcase from one of the 4 main belts, look for your tour company desk or rep just after customs. They’ll tick your name off, hand over a coach number or color, and point you to the correct bay. Buses are usually grouped by resort zone, so one coach might cover 6–10 hotels in Hersonissos alone. Seasoned visitors to Crete often only use the tour operator coach for the return leg to HER and pay for a taxi on arrival, especially when landing after 21:00. Others ask the rep at the desk for a blunt estimate: how many stops, and how long. If the answer tops 60 minutes and they’re staying near Hersonissos or Gouves, several posters say they split a taxi at around €35–€45 instead. Some repeat guests even pick hotels known to be first or second off the coach in their chosen resort.
Watch out for long queues and packed buses in August
In peak July–August weekends, coaches serving big resorts like Malia or Rethymno can be very full, with limited space above the seats for cabin bags. A few travelers report families being separated because of first-come seating and pre-assigned rows. Give yourself at least 15 extra minutes after landing for finding the right rep among several dozen signs, and keep valuables and medication in a small bag that fits at your feet instead of in the hold below.
