Only airline lounge in Tasmania, but temper your expectations
This Qantas Club sits in HBA’s T1 main terminal, a few metres from the Qantas domestic gate, and regulars call it “thoroughly, incredibly underwhelming.” Space is tight, seats fill fast before Sydney and Melbourne flights, and more than one review says it can feel more crowded than the tiny terminal outside.
There’s no published schedule, but reports say the lounge usually shuts around the last Qantas departure, often near 5 pm, so evening Jetstar flights leave you back in the public departures area. Plan your check‑in and security timing around that cut‑off; turning up for a 7 pm LCC flight with Qantas Club access won’t help you here.
Food is basic even by regional standards: think light snacks, not a meal before a 2–3 hour leg to SYD or MEL. A Tripadvisor reviewer who called it the “worst Qantas lounge I have encountered” specifically complained about limited options, so eat in the terminal if you want something more substantial than bar nibbles.
The bathroom setup is one of the weak points. LoungeReview flagged a tiny restroom with “dubious cleanliness,” and another review mentioned a broken toilet and tired fittings. If that’s a deal‑breaker, use the main terminal facilities near the T1 gates before you scan into the lounge.
On the plus side, seating is still calmer than the general waiting area when it’s not at peak, and LoungeReview notes there are newspapers and magazines on hand. Airport‑wide Wi‑Fi at Hobart is reported as “pretty good” on Yelp, and that signal usually reaches into the Qantas Club, so you can clear email before boarding.
What regulars do: they only bother going up once they know the lounge is open for their Qantas domestic flight and treat it as a short stop, maybe 20–30 minutes, rather than a place to camp for hours. Many will grab a quick drink, skim the papers, check Wi‑Fi speeds, then head to the nearby Qantas gate as boarding starts.
Practical tip: if the lounge looks packed when you arrive at T1, check the departure board; if two Qantas flights are leaving within 30 minutes, you’ll likely be more comfortable in the public seating until the first one boards, then duck into the lounge after the rush.
