Sala VIP American Express sits in Terminal 1’s lounge cluster confusion
Amex markets GYE access as “Aeropuertos VIP Club” for Platinum and Centurion cardholders, but the physical signage you’ll follow says Sala VIP American Express in Terminal 1. It operates daily from 05:00 to 22:00, so it covers the early Guayaquil departures and most evening flights out of Ecuador’s second city.
The lounge sits airside in Terminal 1, after security and passport control, shared with the Aeropuertos VIP Club network. If your American Express Platinum or Centurion card is on the eligible list, that card is your entry ticket at the desk; no Priority Pass here. Plan on a 10–15 minute walk from standard check-in to the lounge, including security, in normal conditions.
Food follows typical Aeropuertos VIP Club standards, not a separate Amex Centurion-style setup. Expect light bites rather than a full hot buffet: think sandwiches, pastries, and simple snacks supporting a quick stop before a 2–3 hour regional hop. Coffee, soft drinks, and a basic alcohol selection run self-serve during the 05:00–22:00 operating window.
Seating is a mix of small tables and armchairs, aligned to the compact footprint of Terminal 1. Power outlets run along some walls and near a few seating clusters, so grab one early if you need to charge a laptop for a 4–5 hour work session. Wi‑Fi is complimentary and typically faster than the public terminal network, good enough for streaming or a video call before boarding.
You won’t find extras like full showers or nap rooms here, unlike bigger Centurion Lounges in hubs such as MEX or MIA. Restrooms sit just outside or adjacent depending on the current layout of Terminal 1; factor in a 3–5 minute roundtrip so you don’t cut it close on boarding times. For families, note that kids are allowed, but there’s no dedicated playroom or quiet family corner.
Practical call: if you already hold an eligible American Express Platinum or Centurion card and depart from Terminal 1, factor in 45–60 minutes to clear security and grab a quick snack here before walking back to your gate about 10–15 minutes before boarding time.
