Aelia Duty Free

T1

T1’s Aelia Duty Free sits just past central security

Aelia Duty Free in Terminal T1 is the main post-security shop you walk through on the way to most Schengen gates. It’s the standard GVA stop for last-minute Swiss chocolate, cigarettes, and liquor before boarding. Prices on spirits are usually lower than downtown Geneva supermarkets, but not dramatically; think about 10–20% off for common brands. You pay in CHF or euros, and card tap works reliably.

Cosmetics and skincare take up a big chunk of the floor, with all the usual airport labels plus a few Swiss brands you won’t always see in smaller terminals. Aelia in T1 opens early, typically around the first morning departures, and stays open into the late evening banks, so you can usually shop even on a 06:00 flight or a 22:00 departure. Watch the line at the staffed tax-free counters; it can back up right before big long-haul waves.

Food-wise, you get stacks of Toblerone, Lindt, and local pralines in 200 g to 1 kg packs, along with multipack biscuits that travel well. Standard 1-liter liquor bottles dominate the side aisles, with promo pricing flagged on endcaps for things like whisky or cognac. If you’re tight on time at GVA, you can move through the core section in under 5 minutes and still grab chocolate plus one bottle.

Tip: If you want duty free on arrival into Switzerland, skip bulk buys here and plan on picking up at your destination; otherwise, stock up in T1 so you’re not hunting for gifts downtown.
