Kadamba Bus to Vasco da Gama

Bus

Bus 25-30 min Loose change

Loose-change Kadamba bus gets you from GOI T1 to Vasco in about 25–30 minutes

The Kadamba bus to Vasco da Gama runs roughly 7 a.m. to 7–8 p.m. and suits solo travellers or backpackers landing at Goa Dabolim’s T1 who care more about saving ₹500–₹800 on taxis than getting AC or a seat. Real-world reports put the ride at 25–30 minutes in office or school traffic, a bit less off‑peak.

You don’t board inside the terminal forecourt at GOI T1; you walk 5–10 minutes out to the main airport gate on the highway where the blue Kadamba buses stop with other local services. Multiple travellers note there’s little English signage at this roadside stop, so expect a regular public bus stop, not an airport-branded stand.

Fares are truly loose change by Goa standards, usually just a few dozen rupees paid in cash to the conductor after boarding, compared with ₹800+ quotes for taxis to South Goa. There is no ticket counter in T1 for this; you just climb on, say “Vasco,” and hand over small notes or coins when the conductor comes through.

Buses are aimed at locals commuting between the airport junction and Vasco da Gama town, so there is no dedicated luggage hold and often no overhead racks beyond small shelves. During peak hours between about 8–10 a.m. and 5–7 p.m., you may stand with your backpack in the aisle while people squeeze on and off at intermediate stops.

For onward trains, the bus drops you in Vasco da Gama, roughly 1–2 km from Vasco railway station, which handles several Indian Railways departures toward Mumbai and Karnataka daily. Some budget travellers combine this bus with a short rickshaw or on-foot walk to the station instead of paying a taxi all the way from GOI T1 to coastal areas.

Because timings are inconsistent and there’s no live tracker, regulars recommend asking “Vasco?” to the driver or conductor before boarding, as some Kadamba and private buses on this stretch are actually headed further and only pass via Vasco. A few locals also suggest skipping the last bus of the evening and aiming one departure earlier if you have a fixed train time.

Watch out for long gaps early morning and after about 7 p.m., when frequency drops sharply and you could wait 30–40 minutes at the gate; in that case, a shared taxi from just outside T1 might be worth the extra rupees. Practical tip: change ₹100–₹200 into smaller notes inside T1 before exiting, then walk straight to the airport gate and wait on the terminal side of the road, asking fellow passengers for the “Vasco” bus as it pulls up.
