After 17:00, many BA passengers get sent here by default

UpperDeck Lounge in Terminal 1 runs 05:00 to 20:30 and becomes the holding pen for BA departures once the BA and Lomond lounges shut around 17:00. If your evening flight leaves at 17:10, staff still point you here. It’s landside in the sense of access rules, but entry is by paid pass only, not by airline status. Expect a pay‑lounge feel, not a club room.

Day passes start at about £27 for adults and £17 for children, with the airport and TripAdvisor both quoting a strict three‑hour stay limit. That timer starts from your booked slot, not boarding time, so don’t show up four hours before your flight and expect to linger. For a family of four you’re at roughly £88 before anyone eats or drinks, which is why a lot of reviews hammer the value.

The food spread skews snacky: think supermarket‑style pastries at breakfast and a couple of hot items at most later on, plus crisps and biscuits. TripAdvisor reviews call it “basic food” and compare it unfavourably to just buying a proper meal in the terminal for £10–£15. If you want a full cooked breakfast or a plated dinner, plan to eat in the main concourse instead.

Alcohol is capped at four drinks per person, and staff do track it. The rule applies to beer, wine and spirits, even if you’re only drinking 4% lager. After that, you’re on soft drinks, tea or coffee from the self‑serve machines. If your main goal is more than four pints or doubles before a 20:00 departure, lounge access here makes little sense compared with a bar tab in the terminal.

Crowding is the big complaint: mid‑day and early evening often hit capacity, and walk‑ups are turned away at the desk. Reviews mention struggling to find seats near power outlets when the lounge is busy. Your best bet for some breathing room is an early slot between 05:00 and about 08:00, or later in the evening after the main bank of departures clears.

Regulars on FlyerTalk treat UpperDeck as backup only, used when BA re‑routes them here after 17:00. Others pre‑book a three‑hour slot to avoid being shut out at the door. One simple rule: if you’re paying cash and plan to eat a proper meal plus more than four alcoholic drinks, run the numbers against terminal options before you drop £27 on this lounge.
