915 (Galeão X Bonsucesso)

Bus

Bus R$ 4,30

R$ 4,30 gets you from GIG to Bonsucesso with locals

Bus 915 runs between Rio de Janeiro–Galeão (GIG) and Bonsucesso, mainly moving airport staff and nearby residents who live along Avenida Brasil. The fare sits at around R$ 4,30, so it’s one of the cheapest rides leaving Terminals 1 and 2. This is a city bus, not an airport coach, so expect basic seating and frequent stops before you hit the Bonsucesso area.

The 915 bus stops outside Terminals 1 and 2 in the regular city-bus bays, not in the premium airport coach area. You pay the R$ 4,30 fare directly on board, usually in cash in Brazilian reais, through the fare collector or turnstile. No luggage racks, no guaranteed space for big suitcases; this is built for daily commuters heading to work along the Avenida Brasil corridor.

From GIG to Bonsucesso, the ride can run 25–45 minutes depending on traffic on Avenida Brasil, which clogs heavily during weekday rush hours around 7:00–9:00 and 17:00–19:00. Bonsucesso is a local hub for onward suburban trains and buses, so the 915 effectively acts as a low-cost feeder between the airport and Rio’s north-side transport grid. If you’re aiming for a suburban train at Bonsucesso station, build at least a 20-minute buffer in case the bus hits slow sections.

This route primarily serves locals, not visitors, and you won’t see big signage inside Terminals 1 or 2 promoting the 915 the way you do for premium airport buses. On board, announcements may be minimal or only in Portuguese, and there is no dedicated airport information. The R$ 4,30 price reflects that trade: very cheap, but you supply your own route knowledge and comfort level with standard Rio city buses.

Most tourists heading to Zona Sul or Centro lean toward the more expensive airport coach lines or app cars, while the 915 feeds people to Bonsucesso’s trains and buses that fan out along Avenida Brasil. If you’re not already familiar with Rio’s north-side neighborhoods and suburban rail maps, this bus can feel like extra homework. One practical tip: screenshot a map of GIG–Bonsucesso and the exact 915 stop before leaving the airport Wi‑Fi, then follow along on your phone as you ride.
