2 Open · 05:00 to 22:00 ★ 3.2 $$$$ Landside

Crazy line at 07:00 in T2? Subway usually has space.

This Subway sits landside in Terminal 2 at Rio de Janeiro–Galeão, before security, and runs from 05:00 to 22:00. It’s the classic backup plan: brand you recognize, basic fast food, and it’s often where people end up when other spots in T2 are slammed or already closed before a GRU or domestic connection.

Prices sit in the airport markup zone: still a $ tier place, but several reviews note it feels high compared with a Subway in central Rio. Expect standard 15 cm and 30 cm subs, fountain drinks, and cookies; nothing creative beyond the usual global menu plus a couple of Brazil-only fillings. Figure on paying airport prices for a sandwich you already know.

Because it’s pre-security, this works best if you’re arriving early at GIG or waiting for check-in to open, not sprinting to a gate. If you’re connecting internationally to domestic in Terminal 2, you’ll already be airside and this shop won’t help you mid-connection. Think of it more as a fuel stop before bag drop or after landing before a long taxi ride.

Service speed swings a lot. The place can crawl right after a big arrival, when a dozen people hit the counter at once; several travellers report slow prep when a flight unloads. Rating sits around 3.2/5, which tracks: “nothing special, but you know what you’re getting” sums it up. Quality is standard Subway, bread and fillings assembled in front of you with no surprises.

Watch out for queues around common bank times: 06:30–08:30 and 18:00–21:00, when multiple departures leave Terminal 2. If your flight is in that window, grab your sandwich by about 90 minutes before departure so you still have time to clear security and walk to your gate.
