Third-floor Star Alliance Lounge sits above Terminal 2 departures

This Star Alliance Lounge in GIG Terminal 2 sits on the 3rd-floor mezzanine above the main departures hall, accessed by an escalator near the international gates. It serves Star Alliance carriers out of T2, replacing the older contract lounges that used to handle these flights. If you only scan the standard departures level, you can easily miss the escalator up to the lounge.

Access runs through Star Alliance status and premium cabins in Terminal 2, mainly for international departures. Historically, Star Alliance elites at Galeão were sent to generic contract lounges, but FlyerTalk regulars now point to this dedicated Star Alliance space as the default option. If your boarding pass shows a Star Alliance airline leaving from T2, check the lounge icon for confirmation before you head upstairs.

The lounge opens in sync with major *A departure banks out of T2, typically from late afternoon into late evening, but hours can shift with the long-haul schedule. Compared to the older contract lounges on the lower levels, reviewers call this one cleaner and more spacious, with more room between seats. If you have a late-night departure cluster around 22:00–01:00, this is usually the better bet for a seat and working time.

Food and drink sit at a central buffet area, with hot options rotating by time of day and basic snacks available throughout the schedule. One YouTube reviewer rated the overall offering as a “positive” upgrade over the basic contract lounges still operating on other levels. Expect standard lounge alcohol, soft drinks, and coffee machines rather than a staffed bar with made-to-order cocktails.

Showers and restrooms are inside the lounge, a noticeable difference from some older GIG spaces where you had to exit to use terminal facilities. Power outlets line many of the seating zones, but bring a Type N or universal adapter if you’re on non-Brazilian plugs. Wi‑Fi runs off the lounge’s own network rather than the general GIG terminal signal, which helps when the main hall gets busy before overnight departures.

Practical tip: once you clear security in Terminal 2, head toward the international gates and look specifically for the escalator up to the 3rd-floor mezzanine; if you stay on the main departures level, you’ll walk right past the Star Alliance Lounge without ever seeing the entrance.
