Fleet quality is the main selling point here: multiple Google reviewers mention cars that “felt almost brand new,” a strong contrast with some older island rentals. You’ll mostly see compact and mid-size sedans and small SUVs, not exotic convertibles, and the island’s speed limits (25–50 mph) make power irrelevant anyway. Pricing usually runs at or slightly above Avis, so you’re paying a bit more for cleaner interiors and the loyalty ecosystem.

Process is straightforward: walk over from T1 arrivals, present your license at the counter, sign the paperwork, then pick up your car in the adjacent lot. Locals point out that Cayman doesn’t have the full US-style Gold canopy; status helps with priority handling and the odd upgrade, but you still speak with a human at the desk. Most users quote about 15–30 minutes curb to car when only one or two flights land, and noticeably longer in the Saturday peak.

Insurance and deposits are the main pain points. Google reviews describe high security holds on credit cards and pricey collision coverage, in line with other Cayman agencies, plus the occasional mismatch between what a US call center promised and what the local office will actually honor. TripAdvisor posters also note that one-way rentals around the island basically don’t exist, so plan on returning to this same airport lot at the end of your stay.

What regulars do: they book direct on hertz.com with their Gold or Five Star number attached, skip third-party brokers, and keep screenshots of the booked rate. Many take a full lap around the car shooting 10–20 photos and a quick video, including the windshield and wheels, and keep the final fuel receipt from that last fill-up in George Town as backup for any disputes about gas or minor damage.

Watch out for big-bank arrivals: when multiple Miami, Charlotte, and Toronto flights hit within 30–45 minutes, the small counter staff can get overwhelmed. Some frequent visitors intentionally stop for a drink or snack in the T1 landside area and only walk over to Hertz 20 minutes later, trading airport time for a shorter rental line. If you land in that window, build a 45–60 minute buffer before any tight dinner reservation in Seven Mile Beach.
